Getting Back to the Gym

Sep 01, 2024 | Blog
Returning to the gym after an extended break can be a struggle. Whether you took a break due to the summer holidays or your fitness motivation has dwindled, returning to the gym can be both exciting and overwhelming.
To help you make returning to the gym a bit easier, here are some valuable tips to keep in mind:

Don’t overthink it:

Sometimes the biggest hurdle is walking back into the gym or worrying about how hard it might be. Your first session back should be about becoming comfortable in those surroundings again and familiarising yourself with the equipment; it doesn’t need to be the most intense session ever. Enjoy being back at the gym again and be proud of yourself for overcoming the initial hurdle and prioritizing your health and wellbeing.

Set realistic fitness goals:

Before diving headfirst into you first gym session, take some time to set realistic and attainable fitness goals. It's important to ease back into your fitness routine to prevent injury and burnout. Listen to your body and don't push yourself too hard too soon. You may find that your strength and stamina have decreased during your time away from the gym, so be patient with yourself as you work to rebuild your fitness level.

Schedule your workouts:

Treat your gym sessions like any other important appointment by scheduling them in advance. Block out time in your calendar for your gym sessions and make them a priority. Gym sessions are a fantastic way to allocate some ‘me-time’ to your week so you can focus on your fitness.

Do what you enjoy:

Exercise should be fun and rewarding. While you are in the gym, focus on the piece of equipment or the area you enjoy most.

If you are looking to add some variety to your workouts to make it more interesting, why not try one of our Fitter Faster programmes, which are free for members. With regular, complimentary one-to-one appointments, our motivational and qualified experts will enrol you into your choice of Strong, Lean, Core, Perform or Active programmes, set across three fitness levels, and put together the perfect plan for you.
